promises to keep by Ann Tatlock

A mother fleeing unspeakable danger to keep her children safe…
Two young girls guarding secrets in a “cross my heart and hope to die” pledge…

A father desperate to be reunited with his family…
Award-winning author Ann Tatlock skillfully blends her well-drawn characters into an inspiring tale of unimaginable courage and selfless love

Promises to Keep isn’t your typical coming of age story. At least none that I’ve ever read.  Even though it is totally out of my reading box, I knew after reading the back cover blurb that I couldn’t pass it up. And boy, am I glad I didn’t. The story, the characters, the voice are superbly executed.

Tatlock creates a setting that plunges her readers into lives of  her characters and the small town they inhabit. She also does an awesome job telling the story of multiple people through the eyes of a child as they each encounter various crossroads in their lives. And she’s not afraid to broach touchy topics that encompass reality.

Promises to Keep is a keeper and Ann Tatlock has become an autobuy for me.
