I got word that my first five title choices for my first book with Love Inspired Historical were nixed. The task of coming up with the perfect title, the one just right is a bit daunting. So I called in some help. Fellow Love Inspired authors and God.
While I was praying I felt lead to read Psalm 89:1
1 I will sing of the Lord’s great love forever;
with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known
through all generations.
And then I read even more.
2 I will declare that your love stands firm forever,
that you have established your faithfulness in heaven itself.
3 You said, “I have made a covenant with my chosen one,
I have sworn to David my servant,
4 ‘I will establish your line forever
and make your throne firm through all generations.’”
Now I don’t know for sure what God was doing here, but the fact that my story is about God’s covenant to David and restoring his line to the throne sent happy goosebumps down my arms. Out of this I came up with the title ‘The Chosen Bride’. Now I have no idea if it’ll end up the winner, but it made me reflect on how God chose a Shepard boy to be king of his chosen people. He wasn’t what the people expected in a king, a man to lead them and protect them from their enemies. As many of you know David didn’t actually take over kingship until God’s chosen time.
I also can’t help but reflect on how Jesus, God’s covenant through David, chose to set aside his deity and sacrifice himself for his chosen bride.
Just thought I’d share.

Sounds like a great title. Maybe they’ll accept it… 🙂
I can hope, but I also submitted nine other titles. Most of them I could fall in love with. 😉
And here I naively believed that if they didn’t like your title, they would come up with one themselves!
Many months ago I believed the same thing. Now I know differently. Although I do believe it varies with publishing houses.
Interesting glimpse into the publishing workings. I, too, thought the publisher would make suggestions for titles if yours was not accepted. The Chosen Bride does sound perfect for your story. I’m looking forward to reading your debut. I haven’t read a Biblical romance…other than the original Book! 😉
Thank you, Sherida! I can’t wait for you to read it.
