Living the Christmas Story
By Debby Giusti
Many years ago, God gave me a special gift at Christmas…the gift of a child. I was due to deliver my second little one on December 19th and was convinced baby and I would be home from the hospital before the 25th to celebrate Christmas with hubby and our toddler daughter. However, God’s ways are not always our ways, and the 19th came and went without the first labor pain.
Christmas Eve morn, I hopped out of bed, knowing there was work to be done–pies to bake, cranberry relish to make, a turkey and stuffing to prepare. My parents had come for the holidays, and Mother and I scurried around the kitchen to get everything ready for Christmas.
Early the next morning, I awoke with a start and a major contraction. Throughout the day, I focused on the Christ Child born in a stable long ago. As I prayed for my own little one, I thought of Mary’s labor as she brought forth her son and wrapped him in swaddling clothes. The meaning of Christmas was brought home to me that year in a very special way, and I thank God that, in his abundant mercy, he allowed my child to share a birthday with his son. At 5:30 PM, my little one was born—a baby boy we named Joseph.

It’s hardly a happy holiday for medical researcher Callie Evans…until
she discovers her ailing patient is her long-lost brother. And he’s being
watched by undercover police officer Joe Petrecelli. When the trio is
abducted by a cadre of bad guys, Joe and Callie will have to fight to
keep her brother—and themselves—alive.
