Coffee & Chat

Good afternoon, Louise. Thank you for joining Coffee & Chat. What’s your favorite coffee/tea?

I love Earl Grey tea, either hot or iced and definitely unsweetened. It’s my daily beverage of choice.

I haven’t heard that name in a long time. I think I recall it being in the house when I was a kid. I’m not a huge hot tea drinker unless it has a huge amount of honey in it, and I’m not feeling well. Then I like the comfort of hot tea, really anything hot liquid.

Do you care to share what are you currently reading? What are your thoughts on what you’re reading?

I’m currently reading “Defending Honor” by Lynette Eason and Kelly Underwood. I don’t
usually read suspense, but Kelly is in my ACFW chapter, and I bought the book to encourage her. Now that I’m into the story, I’m really enjoying it! It keeps me guessing about who the “bad guy” is.

I have heard wonderful things about “Defending Honor”, and what a great way to support other authors. Who’s your all-time fictional character and why?

My favorite fictional character is Jane Eyre. Jane embodies everything a modern heroine should have: courage, faith, perseverance, and a growing self-respect and confidence. Charlotte
Bronte was way before her time when she wrote Jane Eyre, and I consider this book the perfect
romance novel and a model for all to follow.

Gosh, you make me want to go back and read Jane Eyre. In fact, I think I’ll add that to my TBR pile. Thank you for the reminder. I do love strong heroines, and Jane embodies that strength. Do you have a “the book was better than the movie”? If so, which one and why?

Oh, dear. I can’t really think of one. It’s always fun to watch the various film adaptations of Jane Eyre, and I do love a good Jane Austen movie adaptation. As a writer, I like to see what the new generations do with those lovely stories. I’ve done my own “spin-off” when I wrote my master’s thesis on Moby Dick, titled Hannah Rose. HR won the FHL Inspirational Readers
Choice Award in 2006, and like any other author, I’d love to see a film adaptation of my book.
LOL!

Now I’m really curious about Hannah Rose, and how wonderful it won a Readers Choice Award. And, yes, I believe all of authors long for the day our books become movies. You’d think with the various bad remakes, screen writers would begin broadening their horizons by reading more books. 😉

With spring here, do you garden? If so, what is your favorite thing to grow? You are welcome to send a picture, too, if you’d like.

I live in an apartment in a new state, so I don’t have a place where I can plant a garden.
However, my daughter lives not far from me, and I recently bought two gardenia bushes for her back yard. Can’t wait to see how they flourish.

That sounds wonderful and gardenia’s smell so good. Now, let’s talk your book. What is something about this book you want readers to really take away?

Safe Haven Ranch has a special place in my heart because I set it on a small ranch my
late sister owned. Here’s a picture of the house she lived in.

What you can’t see is that it’s about a hundred yards from the Rio Grande. As you read the story, you can envision my characters acting out their sweet love story, complete with requisite conflicts, resolutions, and happily ever after.
