Confessions from A Contest Junkie

I have a confession to make, but first I need to get a few things out of the way.

1. Happy Birthday, to my youngest!!!!! I pray it’s filled with many blessings.

2. I’m excited to say I’m guest blogging at The Sword and the Spirit . Stop by and leave a comment for a chance to win a copy of The Guardian’s Promise.

3. I’m under a very tight deadline. If you feel led, please say a prayer for me. Also, if you don’t hear from me for a while, that is why.

Okay, so I have to tell y’all that I’m a bit green with envy. Pre-contract, I looked forward to entering contests. I always went in with a strategy, focusing on the final judges, the cost, and how many first round judges there were, etc. I loved reading the comments, even the ones that didn’t make a lot of sense.

Because of the contract I signed in 2012 I’ve been unable to enter any contests. Yeah, there were a few here and there where published authors could enter, but since the guidelines say you can only enter a category you’re not published in and I’m published in the Inspirational category, that left me out.

So why not enter published contests? Well, that would be all right as rain, except for the fact that I’m not eligible yet. The Rita, The Carols, The Christy awards all require a copyright date of 2013, which means it’ll be 2015 before I can enter any of those.

Don’t get me wrong, although I’m a little bummed, I wouldn’t trade a my contract for my contest entry. For now I’ll just encourage my writer friends as they prepare their entries and rejoice with them when they get the results.
